pray wait and watch became more than a phrase during one uncertain season of my life. Habakkuk’s words became personal. They invited me to trust God when I could not see the outcome.
I got sober in 1998. Ten years later, the Great Recession brought fear back into my life. Our finances werestretched thin with college tuition, mortgage, car payment, and family expenses. Suddenly, my job felt uncertain, and my peace began to slip.
Early in recovery, I learned to begin each day with prayer and meditation. However, this season requiresmore than routine. I needed to seek God with deeper trust.
So, I opened the Bible and found Habakkuk 2:1–3. The promise stood out: even if the vision seems slow, wait for it. Those words gave me hope. I did not need to force an answer. I needed patience and faith.
Pray wait and watch for God’s timing
Habakkuk also faced uncertainty. He lived during violence and threat, and he questioned why the righteous suffered while the wicked seemed to succeed. Yet he chose to wait for God’s response instead of reacting in fear. God told him to write the vision clearly and trust that it would come at the appointed time.

Like Habakkuk, I wanted quick answers. However, God called me not to react, but to listen. My watchtower became a condition of my heart. There, I chose trust over panic.
In the end, the outcome I feared never happened. Instead, God gave me something greater: learning to trust Him through uncertainty. Over time, He provided for our family and strengthened my faith.
Habakkuk’s message continues to guide me: in every season, we are called to seek God, wait patiently, and watch for Him at work. Waiting is not easy, but God is faithful, even when we cannot see the outcome.
